the-irresponsible-captain-tylor-ova-dvd
The Irresponsible Captain Tylor (OVA) DVD

Six months have passed since Captain Justy Ueki Tylor and the crew of the Soyokaze helped end the war between the United Planets Space Force and the Raalgon Empire in the most improbable fashion imaginable. Peace is fragile. The Raalgon Empire is developing a devastating new weapons system, and Tylor has been assigned to intercept it — which immediately goes catastrophically wrong, leaving the entire Soyokaze crew captured and awaiting execution. As the hours count down, the crew is left to debate the central question that has defined Tylor's career: is he a genius operating several moves ahead of everyone, or simply the universe's most fortunate idiot? The main story arc of the first four episodes runs alongside six side-story episodes exploring individual crew members — Yamamoto's action hero aspirations, Andressen and a prototype Marine Battlesuit, a Raalgon court intrigue involving Empress Azalyn's long-lost childhood friend Ruu, Kojiro testing a prototype fighter, and a White Christmas where Yuriko waits and Tylor is, characteristically, late.

The Irresponsible Captain Tylor OVA is a 10-episode sequel OVA series produced by Tatsunoko Production and Studio Deen, directed by Koichi Mashimo and Naoyuki Yoshinaga, set after the events of the 1993 TV series. The OVA is notable for shifting its focus considerably away from Tylor himself — he is the protagonist in only one episode — and instead functions largely as a character study of the Soyokaze ensemble, exploring the people around him and what the war and its aftermath have done to each of them. The score for the 1994 episodes was composed by Kenji Kawai; the 1995 episodes by Toshiyuki Watanabe. Character design was by Tomohiro Hirata. Originally released in Japan on VHS between October 1994 and August 1996; released in North America by The Right Stuf International on three DVD volumes between July and September 2001, and later as a remastered single-disc collection by Nozomi Entertainment on August 28, 2009. An Ultra Edition box set released November 8, 2005 included all three OVA DVDs, a soundtrack CD, an extras DVD with 95 minutes of Japanese interviews, a 32-page original novella by series creator Hitoshi Yoshioka, and a 48-page art and trivia booklet.

Notable Staff & Voice Talent

Directors: Koichi Mashimo (Sorcerer Hunters, Noir, .hack//SIGN) & Naoyuki Yoshinaga
Original Light Novels: Hitoshi Yoshioka (The Most Irresponsible Man in Space, Fujimi Fantasia Bunko)
Character Design: Tomohiro Hirata (Last Exile, Urusei Yatsura, Trinity Blood)
Studio: Tatsunoko Production / Studio Deen
Music (1994 episodes): Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell, Jin-Roh, Vampire Princess Miyu TV)
Music (1995 episodes): Toshiyuki Watanabe (Now and Then Here and There, Great Dangaioh)

Japanese Cast:
• Hirotaka Suzuoki as Justy Ueki Tylor
• Yumi Touma as Yuriko Star
• Chika Sakamoto as Empress Azalyn (Night on the Galactic Railroad)
• Akio Otsuka as Cmdr.
