Himiko, a ghost hunter and medium, often encounters supernatural things. When she tries to help an unconscious little girl, she meets the vampire girl Miyu.

She has the task of banishing beings called Shinma into the darkness. As a vampire, however, she usually needs the blood of a human to live. She gives her victims the choice of death or remaining in a kind of dream world from which there is no escape. On the other hand, Himiko has decided to accompany Miyu to avert the sinister deeds. So they set off on a journey during which they realise that they have much more in common than they initially thought.

Vampire Princess Miyu blends supernatural horror with poetic tragedy in a style that made it one of the most beloved dark-fantasy anime of the 1990s.
