Felton Pinkerton took his wife to the county fair instead of spraying his corn crops with pesticide, and now wave after wave of insects are closing in from the right side of the screen. Players control Felton across a horizontal field, armed with a spray gun of pesticide and plough balls, racing back and forth to stop inchworms, caterpillars, snails, moths, slugs, and millipedes from reaching the corn stalks on the left. The box art is a parody of Grant Wood's American Gothic painting.

The gameplay draws comparisons to Centipede and Missile Command played horizontally, with each insect type requiring specific tactics. Snails have pesticide-resistant shells and must be hit from above. Moths lay eggs that hatch into inchworms mid-wave. If any non-inchworm insect touches Felton's spray gun it destroys the weapon, forcing a run to the toolshed to grab a replacement. Plough balls clear everything in their path but are limited. Points are awarded per kill and for each surviving corn stalk at the end of a round. Two players alternate between waves, with each player identifiable by different colored overalls on screen.

The soundtrack is a rendition of "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," and the game uses clever sprite programming tricks to put more moving objects on screen simultaneously than virtually any other Intellivision title. Like many early Activision games, a mail-in patch reward program was included — players who photographed a score of 75,000 points or higher and sent the photo to Activision received the "Activision Worm Whompers" iron-on patch. Worm Whomper was released in 1983 and is not compatible with the Intellivision ECS expansion.

Language: English
Rating: N/A (pre-ESRB)
Platform: Mattel Intellivision
Genre: Action / Shooter
Players: 1-2 players (alternating)
Developer: Cheshire Engineering (Tom Loughry)
Publisher: Activision
Release Year: 1983

Only multiple item orders that combine to $120 or more get free shipping.
