Ace Attorney 2: Justice for All - Nintendo DS

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney — Justice for All for the Nintendo DS is the second entry in Capcom's acclaimed courtroom adventure series, set roughly one year after the events of the original game.

Phoenix Wright returns as a defense attorney, but opens the game in a startling predicament — he has lost all of his memories after being struck by a fire extinguisher, and must piece together who he is and what he does while being thrust straight into a new string of murder cases. His assistant Maya Fey is back by his side, and a brand-new supporting character, Franziska von Karma — the prodigy daughter of Phoenix's greatest rival Manfred von Karma — takes the prosecutor's bench, whip in hand, determined to achieve the perfect win record her family demands. Four new cases unfold across the game, each more complex and emotionally charged than the last, building toward a finale that puts everything Phoenix values on the line.

Justice for All plays identically to the original Ace Attorney — players alternate between Investigation phases, exploring crime scenes and interviewing witnesses to gather evidence, and Courtroom phases, where that evidence is used to cross-examine witnesses and expose contradictions in their testimonies. The key new mechanic introduced in this entry is the Psyche-Lock system: during investigations, Phoenix can sense when a person is hiding something, represented by chains and padlocks appearing over them. Breaking through those locks by presenting the correct evidence mid-conversation extracts crucial information before the trial even begins, adding a strategic layer to the investigation sections. The DS version supports stylus navigation throughout and microphone input for shouting "Objection!" and "Hold It!" during cross-examination.

Originally developed for Game Boy Advance in Japan in 2002, Justice for All was ported to Nintendo DS and released in North America in January 2007. Unlike the first game's DS port, this version does not include any DS-exclusive bonus cases — it is a faithful port of the original five-case GBA release. The game has since been made available as part of the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy on Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam, but the DS cartridge remains a beloved standalone collector's piece for fans of the series.
