Tatsumi is a young swordsman who leaves his impoverished village for the Capital, hoping to earn enough money to save it. He arrives to find a city of corruption rotting beneath its gleaming surface — ruled by a child Emperor whose every action is controlled by the manipulative Prime Minister Honest, sustained by a brutal secret police force, and soaked in the blood of anyone who speaks against it. After his traveling companions are tortured and killed, Tatsumi is rescued by Night Raid, the assassination branch of the Revolutionary Army: an elite group of killers who each wield Imperial Arms — relics of immense and often lethal power created by a long-dead empire. Night Raid operates in the shadows, cutting down the corrupt one by one. Tatsumi joins them. He will discover quickly that this war does not spare the people he cares about.

Akame ga Kill! is a 24-episode action series produced by White Fox, directed by Tomoki Kobayashi, and based on Takahiro and Tetsuya Tashiro's manga serialized in Monthly GFantasy — the same magazine that published RG Veda. It aired in Japan from July to December 2014 and is notable for its willingness to kill major characters throughout its run, giving the series a genuine sense of consequence rarely sustained in action shonen. The anime departs from the manga in its second half and delivers an original ending. Licensed in North America by Sentai Filmworks; the Complete Collection Blu-ray was released December 4, 2018. A SteelBook edition followed on October 27, 2020. Special features include AkaKill! Theater shorts (24 episodes, ~29 minutes, bilingual), two clean openings, two clean closings, and four Japanese promos.
