Back in 1995 for the PS Vita is a short-form survival horror game developed by Takoban and published by EastAsiaSoft, conceived as a deliberate recreation of the aesthetic and feel of early 3D PlayStation 1-era horror games. Low-polygon character models, blurry pre-rendered backgrounds, tank controls, fixed camera angles, and a deliberately limited draw distance are all intentional design choices rather than technical limitations. The game presents itself as something that could have genuinely existed in 1995, right down to the menu fonts and loading screen behavior.
Players control Kent, who arrives at a ruined city after an unspecified catastrophe and must navigate the remains of a multi-story building, gathering items, solving simple puzzles, and avoiding the monstrous creatures that now inhabit the wreckage. The tone is melancholy and strange rather than conventionally frightening, with environmental storytelling filling in the context of what happened to the city. The game runs approximately two to three hours for a single playthrough and contains multiple endings based on player choices.
This is the EastAsiaSoft Play Exclusives physical release for PS Vita, one of a very limited number of physical copies produced. It includes the game card and a collectible mini art card.
