Every evening at supermarkets across Japan, a ritual takes place. When the closing-time staff member applies the half-price sticker to the remaining bento boxes, something is unleashed. The brawlers emerge — fighters who have dedicated themselves to the honor of claiming discounted food through combat. There are rules. You do not touch the bento before the sticker goes on. You fight fairly. You accept defeat. The strongest fighters carry titles: the Ice Witch, the Monarch, the Wizard. Into this world stumbles Yo Sato, a broke high school student who wanders into his local supermarket hungry and wakes up on the floor, beaten unconscious and surrounded by empty shelves, with no memory of what happened. He goes back the next day. He goes back every day. Gradually guided by the elegant Sen Yarizui — the Ice Witch herself, president of the Half-Priced Food Lovers Club — and surrounded by the eccentric Hana Oshiroi, his aggressive cousin Shaga, and a rotating cast of rivals with their own titles and personal codes, Sato discovers that the battle for half-priced bento is not about hunger. It is about pride.

Ben-To is a 12-episode action comedy series produced by David Production — the studio behind JoJo's Bizarre Adventure — directed by Shin Itagaki, and based on Asaura's light novel series published under ASCII Media Works' Dengeki Bunko imprint. It aired on Tokyo MX from October to December 2011 and occupies a genuinely singular niche: a series that plays its absurd premise with complete sincerity, delivering choreographed fight sequences of legitimate quality in a supermarket setting while maintaining warm character dynamics throughout. The English dub produced by FUNimation features Felecia Angelle, Tia Ballard, and Trina Nishimura. Released in North America by FUNimation on February 3, 2015 as both a Standard DVD Box Set and a Limited Edition Blu-ray + DVD Box Set with premium chipboard artbox.
