Guts is a lone mercenary — no name, no past worth keeping, a two-handed sword almost as tall as he is, and a talent for surviving situations that should kill him. Captured and recruited by Griffith, the silver-haired visionary leader of the Band of the Hawk, Guts finds himself for the first time with comrades, with purpose, and with someone he genuinely admires. The Hawks rise through the hundred-year war between Midland and Chuder, winning impossible battles, gaining noble recognition, and building toward the kingdom Griffith has always dreamed of owning. Through it all, the fierce warrior Casca watches both men with complicated feelings, and Guts begins to question whether fighting for Griffith's dream is the same as having one of his own. When Guts leaves to forge his own path, the fracture it creates in Griffith leads to a catastrophic act that destroys everything — and Griffith's imprisonment becomes the trigger for the Eclipse: the event that defines everything that follows in the Berserk universe and from which nothing emerges unchanged.

The Egg of The King: Arc I -  Guts is a young and highly skilled mercenary living in a medieval era of the Midland monarchy. During the siege of a castle, he catches the attention of Griffith, leader of a mercenary army called Band of the Hawk. As the two meet again, Guts ends up joining the notorious group.

The Battle for Doldrey: Arc II - The Band of the Hawk participates in the Midland war campaign. On the bloody battlefield, they conquer decisive victories that lead them to Doldrey, an old fortress that will decide the outcome of the war. Amid all this carnage, Griffith´s words still resonate in Guts´ head and make him wonder what should he do once this conflict is over.

The Advent: Arc III - Guts and the remainder of the Band of the Hawk join forces once again to try to rescue Griffith from the depths of Midland. This is just the prelude of a nefarious ritual intended to brand the end of the Golden Age arc.

The three films together adapt the complete Golden Age arc — the central storyline of Kentaro Miura's Berserk manga — across approximately 283 minutes, from Guts and Griffith's first meeting through the Eclipse and its devastating aftermath. Produced by Studio 4°C — the studio behind Spriggan, Memories, and The Animatrix — directed by Toshiyuki Kubooka, and scored by Susumu Hirasawa, who also composed the iconic score for the original 1997 Berserk television series. The trilogy uses a combination of traditional 2D animation and CG integration, with a visual style distinct from the 1997 series that drew both praise for its ambition and debate among fans for its CG action sequences. The Eclipse sequence in the third film — the most pivotal and most graphically extreme scene in Miura's manga — is adapted faithfully and without restraint.

All three films were released in North America by Viz Media on separate Blu-ray and DVD editions: Film I on November 27, 2012; Film II on August 6, 2013; Film III on April 15, 2014.
