Part 2 of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, subtitled "The Separation," accelerates the war with the Wandenreich launching their decisive second invasion of the Soul Society. Having prepared during a period of relative peace, the Soul Reapers utilize new strategies—such as Mayuri Kurotsuchi's method to counter Bankai theft—and showcase significant power increases, most notably the newly trained Kenpachi Zaraki, and the Royal Palace returnees Renji and Rukia, who achieve new levels of strength and utilize their completed Bankai forms. The conflict culminates in Ichigo Kurosaki's powerful return to the battlefield to challenge the Quincy King Yhwach; however, despite Ichigo's newfound strength, Yhwach activates his overwhelming ability, "The Almighty," to defeat Ichigo, break his new blade, and ascend with his elite guard and the surprisingly loyal Uryū Ishida to the Soul King Palace, leaving the Gotei 13 in disarray once more.
