Pazu, an energetic orphan boy working in a small mining town, spots a young girl named Sheeta floating down gently from the night sky, suspended by a glowing crystal pendant around her neck. Sheeta is on the run from airship pirates led by the boisterous Captain Dola, as well as a ruthless government military agent named Muska who seeks her mysterious pendant. Pazu vows to protect Sheeta, and together they set off on a high-flying adventure to locate Laputa—a legendary floating castle in the clouds that holds advanced ancient technology, unimaginable wealth, and the secret key to Sheeta's royal lineage. But as their pursuers close in, Sheeta and Pazu must protect the lost sanctuary from those who wish to use its destructive powers to conquer the world.
Written and directed by master filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki, 1986's Castle in the Sky (Laputa: Castle in the Sky) is the very first official feature film produced by Studio Ghibli. Celebrated worldwide for its breathtaking steampunk design, exhilarating aerial dogfights, and sweeping orchestral soundtrack by Joe Hisaishi, the movie remains an enduring masterpiece of action, heart, and wonder.
