Chaos;Head Noah Visual Guidebook is the official companion publication for Chaos;Head Noah, the expanded director's cut release of 5pb. and Nitroplus's landmark 2008 science fiction visual novel Chaos;Head. Published by Jive in 2009 to accompany the Xbox 360 release of Noah, this 128-page softcover guide collects full-color illustration galleries, complete character profiles and concept designs, weapon design sheets for the Di-Swords, CG screen captures from across the game's multiple routes, and a full walkthrough of the story — making it an essential companion for fans who want to go deeper into the world and lore of the game beyond what the text alone provides. Around 96 of the book's 128 pages are presented in full color, giving the illustration and CG sections plenty of room to breathe.
Chaos;Head Noah follows Takumi Nishijou, a reclusive high school student and self-described "galge otaku" who lives alone in a shipping container on a Shibuya rooftop and rarely attends class. When a stranger sends him prophetic images of a murder that hasn't happened yet — and he witnesses the actual killing the next day — Takumi is pulled into the "New Generation Madness" serial murder case sweeping the city, and begins to lose his grip on what is real and what is delusion. The game was developed in collaboration between 5pb. and Nitroplus, planned by Chiyomaru Shikura and written by Naotaka Hayashi, with character designs by Mutsumi Sasaki. Noah expanded the original game with six new heroine-focused routes and the full "Blue Sky" ending, and is the definitive version of the story. An English localization of Chaos;Head Noah was released by Spike Chunsoft for Nintendo Switch and Windows in 2022, introducing the series to a much wider Western audience.
Chaos;Head holds a significant place in visual novel history as the first entry in the Science Adventure series — the interconnected franchise that would go on to include Steins;Gate, Robotics;Notes, Chaos;Child, and Occultic;Nine. The Visual Guidebook was published in May 2009 by Jive at the height of the game's popularity in Japan, and has never been officially released in English, making it a Japan-exclusive import. Note: this book contains mature content and is intended for older teen and adult collectors.
