New York City, 1928. Jazz is hot, bootleg liquor is everywhere, and summoning demons has become an alarming new pastime among the idle rich. Sister Rosette Christopher is an exorcist for the Order of Magdalene — aggressive, reckless, and perpetually in trouble with her superiors. Her partner is Chrono, a demon of unusual gentleness bound to her by a contract that draws on Rosette's own life force every time his true power is released. The watch on her wrist counts down her remaining time. They are hunting Aion, the demon who kidnapped Rosette's brother Joshua years ago and whose plans for the world are catastrophically larger than anything the Order anticipated. As the investigation deepens and the clock on Rosette's life keeps moving, the series builds toward one of the most emotionally devastating conclusions in early 2000s anime.

Chrono Crusade is a 24-episode supernatural action series produced by Gonzo — the studio behind Vandread, Gate Keepers, Burst Angel, and Witchblade — directed by Yū Kō, written by Atsuhiro Tomioka, scored by Hikaru Nanase (Z.O.E. Dolores I, eX-Driver: The Movie), and based on Daisuke Moriyama's manga serialized in Monthly Comic Dragon. It aired on Fuji TV from November 2003 to June 2004. The series was later broadcast in the U.S. on Showtime Beyond and Syfy.

ADV Films released the series on DVD in North America beginning September 21, 2004 across seven individual volumes. Both standard keepcase and slim Thinpak editions were produced. The ADV Films Complete Collection 5-disc set was also released on March 24, 2009. FUNimation later acquired the license and reissued the series. Each individual volume includes reversible cover art, production sketches, Azmaria's Extra Classes shorts, background character and setting info, original on-air openings, and the Chrono Crusade Chronicle feature.
