<p><strong>Comic Party</strong> is a cheerful, self-aware comedy manga written and illustrated by Sekihiko Inui, adapted from the beloved dating sim visual novel by game studio Leaf and serialized in MediaWorks' <em>Dengeki Daioh</em>. Kazuki Sendo has always loved art, but a rejection from his dream fine arts academy leaves him adrift — until his wildly enthusiastic classmate Taishi Kuhonbutsu drags him to a doujinshi convention called Comic Party, a sprawling independent comics marketplace loosely inspired by Comiket, the real-world event held twice a year at Tokyo Big Sight. One visit is all it takes. Kazuki is immediately swept up in the creative energy of the scene, and before he knows it he's pulling all-nighters, cramming for convention deadlines, and navigating a cast of fellow doujinshi artists — each with their own creative style, ego, and very strong opinions about what makes good manga.</p>

<p>What gives <em>Comic Party</em> its charm is how lovingly it depicts the doujinshi world from the inside. Inui himself is a practicing doujinshi artist, and the manga reads like an affectionate portrait of a creative subculture — the camaraderie of the convention floor, the anxiety of putting your original work in front of strangers, the obsessive late-night energy of someone who has found what they actually want to do. The humor is broad and chibi-heavy, leaning into the exaggerated personalities of its ensemble cast, and the series has the loose, episodic energy of a slice-of-life comedy that's more interested in its characters than its plot.</p>

<p>One of the earliest manga to put doujinshi culture center stage — a full decade before <em>Genshiken</em> and the wave of otaku self-reflection manga that followed — <em>Comic Party</em> holds a notable place in manga history as a window into the fan-creation scene of early-2000s Japan. The franchise was adapted into a 13-episode anime series in 2001 licensed in North America by The Right Stuf International, followed by a 2003 OVA sequel. The complete five-volume TOKYOPOP run was released between 2004 and 2006, making a full set increasingly tricky to track down.</p>
