In Cross Ange: Rondo of Angel and Dragon, in the Misurugi Empire, humanity has mastered "Mana," a revolutionary technology that has turned the world into a peaceful utopia. However, those born without the ability to use Mana are branded as "Norma"—dangerous subhumans to be exterminated. Princess Angelise lives a life of sheltered luxury until her sixteenth birthday, when she is publicly exposed as a Norma. Stripped of her crown and name, she is exiled to a remote military base called Arzenal. Now known simply as Ange, she must trade her ballgowns for a cockpit, piloting a humanoid weapon called a "Para-mail" to hunt invading dragons in a brutal cycle of survival and vengeance.
