Cyberbots: Fullmetal Madness for the Sega Saturn is a 1995 Capcom mech fighting game — a spin-off of the arcade beat-'em-up Armored Warriors — set in a war-torn future where nine pilots each carry their own motivations into the cockpit of a giant battle mech. Among them is Jin Saotome, searching for the truth behind his father's death, and the eccentric Devilotte, piloting a robot octopus in pursuit of galactic domination. Each pilot's story unfolds through voiced cutscene sequences between fights, giving every character a distinct narrative arc across the tournament.
The game separates pilot and mech selection entirely. Players first choose a pilot — who determines the story and voiced dialogue — then choose from four manufacturers, each offering three distinct mechs, for a total of twelve playable units. Each mech has different legs affecting movement speed, arms affecting reach and melee power, and swappable weapons that change the attack set entirely. Combat plays like a classic Capcom 2D fighter — Street Fighter II pacing and execution with mech-scaled physics — with a filled Energy Gauge enabling powerful Cyber EX super moves or the screen-clearing Giga Crash finisher.
The Sega Saturn version is the definitive release of the game. It requires a 1MB RAM expansion cartridge for optimal performance and includes a code to unlock a playable Akuma mech — exclusive to this version. The backgrounds feature destructible cityscapes that crumble under the weight of the battle. Defunct Games gave it 78% and called it "a must buy for 2D fighter fans" and "one of the best mech fighters available," noting that most of the game is already in English outside of story cutscenes — making it highly importable.
Released in Japan on March 28, 1997, the Saturn version was never released outside Japan. The arcade original received a wider release via Capcom Arcade Stadium and Capcom Fighting Collection, but neither includes the Saturn-exclusive Akuma mech or the additional story content. This is a Japan-import disc. The Sega Saturn is region-locked and this disc will only play on a Japanese Sega Saturn or a region-free modded unit. All story text and dialogue are in Japanese.
