Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online for the PlayStation 4 is a hack-and-slash action RPG developed by Tamsoft and Compile Heart, and the first Neptunia spin-off released on PS4 rather than Vita. The setup is a game-within-a-game: Neptune, Noire, Blanc, and Vert, the four CPU Goddesses of Gamindustri, receive beta invitations for a new MMORPG called 4 Goddesses Online, which is set in the fantasy world of Alsgard. Upon logging in they discover the game's world tree Leanverde is under threat from a Demon King, and a fairy named Bouquet needs a party of heroes to stop him. The Goddesses being the Goddesses, they volunteer immediately and begin playing the game as if it is their actual lives, which of course it sort of becomes.

The gameplay is quest-based and centered in the hub city of Wishuel, where players purchase equipment, upgrade weapons, take on missions at the guild, and interact with a cast of recurring NPCs. Each dungeon run takes a party of up to four characters chosen from the eight playable heroines, each with distinct attack styles and skill sets. Normal attacks restore SP while special skills consume it, encouraging an active rhythm between the two. Nine assignable AI tactics control how the non-player-controlled party members behave in battle. Awakening Skills are powerful burst moves tied to each character's Goddess form. The game is the first in the Neptunia series built on Unreal Engine 4, and the visual upgrade over previous entries is noticeable throughout the dungeons and combat.

Online co-op lets up to four players tackle dungeons together, replacing the AI party members with human-controlled characters and adding a chat system that leans into the MMORPG framing. The writing throughout parodies MMO culture alongside the series' usual video game industry satire, and the character interactions are consistently the most celebrated element across reviews.
