Dennin-Aleste: Nobunaga and His Ninja Force - Mega CD

Dennin-Aleste: Nobunaga and His Ninja Force for the Sega Mega CD is a vertical shoot-'em-up developed by Compile — the studio behind MUSHA Aleste and the Aleste series — set in an alternate Sengoku-era Japan where giant steam-powered mecha have been introduced to feudal warfare. Oda Nobunaga's clan has been devastated by the anti-Oda alliance, and Kagerou — the sole surviving member of Nobunaga's elite robot ninja army, the White Fang — pilots the 8-metre Aleste war machine to avenge his lord and bring down the warlords of the Chugoku region one by one.

The gameplay follows the classic Compile vertical shooter formula refined across MUSHA and the broader Aleste series. Players blast through waves of enemy mecha, airships, and feudal war machines while collecting weapon power-ups and managing a redesigned sideship system — two indestructible wingmen that fire sub-weapons alongside the main ship. Four sub-weapons are available including the new Fuusha-shuriken, which fires large flaming shuriken in four or eight directions depending on power level. Each stage ends in a boss encounter against one of the enemy warlords.

The Mega CD format allowed Compile to include a full animated opening and story sequences between stages, a full CD audio soundtrack, and a production scale far beyond what the Genesis cartridge format could support — making this one of the most visually and aurally impressive shooters on the platform.

Released in Japan on November 27, 1992, Dennin-Aleste was later localized for North America by Tengen under the title Robo Aleste in 1993. A planned sequel was cancelled. This is the original Japanese import disc. The Mega CD is region-locked and this disc will only play on a Japanese Mega CD system or a region-free modded unit. All text is in Japanese.
