Mink has a complicated family situation. Her father is a retired dragon slayer — one of the greatest in the kingdom. Her mother is an imperial red dragon. This has left Mink with a cute pair of wings, a green tail, superhuman strength, the ability to breathe fire, and a perfectly normal teenage girl's desperate crush on Dick Saucer: idol singer, professional dragon slayer, and the most beautiful man in the world. The problem should be obvious. Mink's solution — pursued at full speed with her friends the elven healer Lufa and the dwarven warrior Pia — is to find a potion that will transform her into a full human, which requires slaying the Demon Lord Azetodeth and navigating the catastrophically absurd Brutal Killer Martial Arts Tournament. Standing in their way: Princess Vina (Saucer's other love interest), the repeatedly humiliated warrior Damaramu, a king who despises Mink's father and would really like everyone to stop winning, and the general chaos that follows a half-dragon teenager through everyday life.
Dragon Half is a two-episode OVA from 1993 directed by Shinya Sadamitsu, produced by Production I.G, and based on Ryusuke Mita's beloved Dragon Magazine manga. It was originally planned as four episodes but was cut to two after tepid initial sales — a decision that has haunted its fanbase ever since, as the two episodes that exist are widely regarded as among the funniest anime ever produced. The series deploys its humor at machine-gun speed, constantly oscillating between normal animation and super-deformed chibi chaos, parodying RPG conventions, idol culture, and fantasy anime tropes with gleeful abandon. The ending theme "My Omelette" — Beethoven's Seventh Symphony Fourth Movement repurposed into a pop song sung in character by Kotono Mitsuishi — has become one of the most beloved jokes in anime history.
Originally released in North America on DVD by ADV Films; later reissued paired with Puni Puni Poemy.
