Elite Beat Agents for the Nintendo DS is a wildly entertaining rhythm game where a team of sharp-dressed covert government operatives — the Elite Beat Agents — solve people's everyday problems through the power of music and dance. From a babysitter overwhelmed by mischievous kids to a struggling artist desperate for inspiration, each mission unfolds as a short comedic story told in comic book-style panels on the top screen while the action plays out below.
Gameplay is entirely stylus-driven: players tap numbered circles in time with the music as shrinking rings close in, drag a glowing ball along on-screen paths, and spin rotating discs to keep the beat. The game features 19 licensed tracks from artists including Madonna, Queen, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Deep Purple, and Chicago, with performance determining whether each story ends in triumph or disaster. A spiritual successor to the Japan-only Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan!, Elite Beat Agents was redesigned from the ground up with new characters, scenarios, and a Western-friendly soundtrack. Up to four players can compete simultaneously via DS Download Play, making it one of the most uniquely social rhythm games on the platform.
