Felix the Cat for the NES is a side-scrolling platformer developed by Hudson Soft in 1992, based on the classic Joe Oriolo animated series. The villainous Professor has kidnapped Felix's girlfriend Kitty and is demanding Felix hand over his magic bag of tricks. Felix sets out across nine colorful worlds to get her back.
The magic bag is the game's core mechanic. Felix starts with a boxing glove but powers up through four stages — magic wand, car, and tank — each with a distinct look and attack style. Taking a hit drops Felix down one power level, and a timer constantly drains the magic meter. Collecting milk bottles refills it, so good item management is as important as avoiding enemies. Nine worlds span the sea, the clouds, haunted mansions, and outer space, each ending in a boss fight against one of the Professor's machines.
GamePro gave the NES version a perfect 5 out of 5. Allgame called it "an example of the right way to produce a game using a popular license." Nintendo Power ranked it #10 in the Top 10 NES Games of 1992 and featured it on the cover of issue #40. The game was re-released for Nintendo Switch, PS4, and PS5 in 2025 by Konami, but the original NES cartridge remains the definitive collector's version — and notably, the re-release altered several sprites and removed Poindexter from the title screen due to licensing changes, making the original a distinct artifact.
