The arena is set, the armor is strapped on, and the walls are electrified. Fighting Vipers brings the high-energy, "bone-crunching" action of the Sega Model 2 arcade original to the Saturn with incredible fidelity. Known for its aggressive attitude and 90s urban aesthetic, the game introduces a unique armor mechanic: every fighter wears protective gear that can be systematically destroyed through heavy damage. Once a combatant’s armor is shattered, they become significantly more vulnerable to strikes, turning every match into a high-stakes battle of attrition.
The gameplay is defined by its enclosed arenas; players can slam opponents into the perimeter walls for extra damage or deliver a final, spectacular blow that sends the loser flying through the cage. With a colorful cast of eccentric characters—including the guitar-wielding rocker Picky, the rollerblading Sanman, and the iconic Honey (Candy in the West)—the game prioritizes speed, flashy combos, and a "pick-up-and-play" accessibility that rewards both newcomers and seasoned fighting fans. This Saturn port also includes exclusive home features like the "Training" and "Playback" modes, making it a definitive 3D fighting experience for the system.
Sega’s AM2 division defined the 3D fighting landscape during the mid-90s with their groundbreaking tech and refined mechanics. Other notable games developed by this legendary team or sharing the same engine include:
-
Virtua Fighter 2
-
Last Bronx
-
