Folklore for the PlayStation 3 is a dark fantasy action-RPG developed by Game Republic and published by Sony Computer Entertainment, set in the haunted coastal village of Doolin, Ireland. Two protagonists arrive at the village under very different circumstances: Ellen, a young woman who receives a cryptic letter from her deceased mother asking her to meet at the edge of the world; and Keats, a skeptical journalist for a paranormal magazine who gets a phone call claiming a murder has taken place in a village where he hears no voices. Both are pulled into the Netherworld, a mysterious realm inhabited by fantastical creatures called Folks, and their separate stories gradually intertwine as the truth behind Doolin and its inhabitants surfaces.

Players choose to play as either Ellen or Keats, each with distinct combat styles. Keats directly channels the power of captured Folks in his hands, favoring aggressive direct attacks, while Ellen summons Folks from a distance in a more strategic style. Over 100 unique Folks populate the Netherworld, each with individual powers and weaknesses that must be exploited during battle. The game's signature mechanic uses the PlayStation 3 SIXAXIS controller to absorb defeated Folks by yanking the controller upward as if pulling a spirit free, assigning their powers to a palette of four active slots. Absorbed Folks are leveled up through use, and strategic deck-building from the full roster shapes how each encounter plays out.

Developed by Game Republic under Yoshiki Okamoto, the creator of Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Onimusha, Folklore released in Japan in June 2007 and in North America on October 9, 2007. The soundtrack was composed by Kenji Kawai and Shinji Hosoe. The game received generally positive reviews praising its story, atmosphere, and visual design. Sony rejected two proposed sequels due to low sales, making this the only entry in the series.
