One year after the events of the television series, Edward Elric is stranded on the other side of the Gate — our world, 1923 Munich, Germany. He cannot get back. Alphonse, on the other side, has his body restored but no memory of the years they spent searching for the Philosopher's Stone. Edward has been working with a Romani woman named Noa, who can read people's memories through touch, and has fallen into contact with the early Nazi movement — whose interest in the legends of a mystical realm called Shamballa aligns uncomfortably with what Ed knows about Amestris. When a way to open the Gate from this side is discovered, it threatens to use the people of Amestris as fuel — and Al, learning what became of his brother, sets out from that side to find him. The two sides of the Gate, the two brothers, and the two worlds are set on a collision course that will require everything the Elrics have left to give.

Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa is the theatrical film conclusion to the 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist television series, directed by Seiji Mizushima, written by Sho Aikawa, and produced by Bones. Released in Japan on July 23, 2005, it draws on the real-world setting of Weimar Republic Germany and the early years of the Nazi party — using historical events and figures as the backdrop for the series' conclusion — and provides a complete ending to the story the 2003 anime diverged into. The film was released theatrically in North America by FUNimation and screened at select venues in September 2006. The North American Blu-ray + DVD combo release was published by FUNimation. The film is essential viewing for anyone who watched the 2003 television series, and is not connected to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.
