Full Metal Panic!: The Second Raid - Blu-ray

Mithril has successfully prevented several major crises, but a new threat is emerging: Amalgam, a shadowy organization with access to technology that rivals and possibly exceeds Mithril's own. At its center is Gates — an unstable, flamboyant, and genuinely terrifying operative whose combat capability puts him beyond anything Sousuke has previously faced. Meanwhile, Sousuke is beginning to crack. Extended deployment protecting Kaname while simultaneously running combat operations has stretched him past his limits. When Mithril reassigns him from guard duty and he is replaced without explanation, the rupture in his and Kaname's relationship — and in Sousuke's own psychological equilibrium — becomes the dramatic core of a season significantly darker than its predecessors. A pair of twin assassins, Yu Lan and Yu Fan, complicate the situation with their own agenda. The war for Kaname and for the Whispered technology has escalated beyond anything the first season suggested.

Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid is a 13-episode series plus one OVA produced by Kyoto Animation — their second major production after Fumoffu — directed by Yasuhiro Takemoto, adapting Shoji Gatoh's Owaru Day by Day light novels. It aired on WOWOW from July to October 2005. Where Fumoffu abandoned the first season's action entirely for pure comedy, The Second Raid inverts that balance — delivering Kyoto Animation's most sustained and technically accomplished action animation to that point while pushing the emotional stakes of the Sousuke-Kaname relationship to their breaking point. The OVA episode "Episode 000" is a comedic prologue not adapted from the novels. Originally licensed in North America by Kadokawa Pictures USA with ADV Films producing the dub; re-licensed by FUNimation who released the remastered Complete Series Blu-ray on November 9, 2010.
