Miaka and Taka (Tamahome reincarnated) are married and expecting their first child. Their happiness is disrupted by Mayo Sakaki — a sixteen-year-old classmate who is deeply, obsessively in love with Taka and consumed by jealousy over Miaka. When Mayo finds a discarded copy of The Universe of the Four Gods and discovers the story is incomplete, she enters the book and declares herself the new Priestess of Suzaku, intent on winning Taka for herself. Inside the book, the spiritual energy of Miaka's unborn child begins to drain away to sustain Mayo's priestess power. The surviving Suzaku warriors must navigate a crisis that threatens both the child and the world of the book, while Mayo is forced to confront whether what she feels is love — or simply the refusal to accept her own loneliness.

Fushigi Yugi: Eikoden is the four-episode third and final OVA in the Fushigi Yugi franchise, directed by Nanako Shimazaki and produced by Studio Pierrot. It is based on the final two of the thirteen light novels written by Megumi Nishizaki and is notably the only entry in the Fushigi Yugi anime to use digital ink and paint, giving it a noticeably different visual texture from the TV series and earlier OVAs. The series is set after the events of OVA 2 and requires familiarity with the main series.
