A massive gate tears open in the middle of Tokyo's Ginza district, and through it pour soldiers in medieval armor, cavalry, dragons, and monsters that lay waste to the city before Japan's Self-Defense Force pushes them back. Yoji Itami is a 33-year-old JSDF officer who was nearby that day buying doujinshi for a convention — an otaku who is also, somewhat incidentally, a competent soldier. His performance during the incident earns him a promotion, and soon he is leading the JSDF's Third Recon Team through the Gate into a parallel world called the Special Region: a feudal empire of humans, elves, demihumans, and magic populated by forces that are militarily outmatched by modern firepower but politically complicated far beyond anything Itami anticipated. He picks up allies: Lelei, a young magic scholar; Tuka, a high elf survivor; and Rory Mercury, an immortal apostle of the death god who carries a massive halberd and is approximately 961 years old. On the other side of the Gate, Japan, China, the United States, and the Roman-inspired Empire are all maneuvering for control of the Special Region's resources, and Itami's Third Recon Team is caught at the center of every political crisis simultaneously.
Gate: Thus the JSDF Fought There! is a 24-episode series produced by A-1 Pictures, directed by Takahiko Kyogoku, and based on Takumi Yanai's light novel series.
The limited edition set's main box is an ammo case — a premium metal ammunition box housing the complete Blu-ray + DVD combo, a 168-page hardcover booklet, a Rory Mercury axe replica, 6 double-sided art cards, a patch, and a dragon logo banner.
