Golden Sun: Dark Dawn - Nintendo DS

Golden Sun: Dark Dawn is a role-playing game for the Nintendo DS developed by Camelot Software Planning and published by Nintendo, released in North America on November 29, 2010. It is the third entry in the Golden Sun series and the first in nearly a decade, arriving about thirty years after the events of Golden Sun: The Lost Age. The world of Weyard has been transformed by the alchemy the previous heroes unleashed. Continents have shifted, new nations and species have emerged, and a new threat has taken hold: Psynergy Vortexes, swirling anomalies that drain elemental energy from the land and the people who depend on it.

The party is led by Matthew, son of the original hero Isaac, joined by Tyrell and Karis, children of Garet and Ivan respectively. What begins as a straightforward errand in the mountains turns into a globe-spanning journey after the group is ambushed by a trio of powerful Adepts and scattered. Their path leads through the beastmen nation of Morgal, where an ancient alchemy device is set in motion and triggers the Grave Eclipse, plunging a vast stretch of the world into supernatural darkness. Reaching the Apollo Lens to end the eclipse puts the party at the center of a conflict that pulls in figures from the series' history, including Alex, Isaac's most dangerous rival from the original games.

The Djinn system returns as the backbone of character building. Seventy-two elemental Djinn are scattered across the world, and assigning them to party members determines each character's class, stats, and available Psynergy spells. Swapping Djinn configurations changes how a character fights entirely, and using Djinn in battle to unleash summons temporarily weakens the characters until the Djinn are recovered. Psynergy is used both in combat and to interact with the environment, opening paths, moving objects, and solving the dungeon puzzles that are a hallmark of the series. The DS hardware expanded what environmental Psynergy could do compared to the Game Boy Advance entries. The full party grows to eight characters as the story progresses.

Nintendo DS cartridges are region-free and will play on any DS, DS Lite, DSi, or 3DS system.
