Great Dangaioh DVD

Ten years ago, a mysterious explosion on Futagami Island lit up the sky and left a crater where there had been solid ground. Officially it was space debris. Unofficially, almost everyone has forgotten it. The only one who knows what she saw that night is Miya — a young girl who has carried the memory of a blinding flash and something emerging from it ever since. Ten years later, a militarized force called the Tartarus Knights, led by the renegade scientist Professor Katou, launches a campaign of global conquest. Their final target is a research base on Futagami Island — and when they arrive, they discover it is guarded by a fortress, from which three powerful humanoid robots emerge to meet them. The pilots are three teenagers: Kuya Amagi, who carries on the legacy of his older brother; Manami Mishio, quiet and analytical, controlling Dangaioh's brain functions; and Hitomi Chidou, hot-blooded and battle-hungry, controlling its heart. Together they form Great Dangaioh — and the weapon from that ten-year-old explosion is only the beginning of the threat they face.

Great Dangaioh is the 2001 television sequel to the beloved 1987 OVA Hyper Combat Unit Dangaioh, produced by AIC and directed by Toshiki Hirano — the creator of the original series and also the director of Vampire Princess Miyu and Apocalypse Zero. 

It aired from April through July 2001 and gradually reveals itself as a direct sequel to the original OVA, eventually bringing back elements of the 1987 story.

The North American DVD release by Viz Media features an English dub produced by Telesuccess Productions in the Philippines.
