Naru Sekiya is a thoroughly ordinary 14-year-old girl who spends her days longing to be like the heroic princesses in her favorite fairy tales. Despite her big dreams, her shy demeanor and fear of stepping out of line keep her living a completely unextraordinary life. Everything changes on a moonlit night when Naru encounters a strange, fairylike girl dancing gracefully atop a shrine gate. The girl turns out to be Hana N. Fountainstand, an energetic American transfer student obsessed with traditional Japanese Yosakoi dancing. Inspired by Hana's infectious passion and determination, Naru takes a leap of faith into the world of Yosakoi. Together with three classmates, they work to build their own school club, overcome personal self-doubt, and bloom on stage.
