Issei Hyodo is a pervy high school student at Kuoh Academy whose singular life goal is to have a harem. His first ever date ends with his girlfriend revealing herself as a Fallen Angel and killing him. He wakes up alive — barely — because Rias Gremory, the beautiful and powerful Devil who is president of the Occult Research Club, has reincarnated him as her servant Devil. Now Issei must navigate the hidden war between Devils, Angels, and Fallen Angels while developing his unique Sacred Gear ability — the Boosted Gear, which doubles his power every ten seconds — and adjusting to life as a supernatural combatant and low-ranking member of Rias's peerage. The harem situation, at least, is improving.

High School DxD is a 12-episode action-comedy series produced by TNK, directed by Tetsuya Yanagisawa, and based on Ichiei Ishibumi's light novel series published under Fujimi Shobo's Fantasia Bunko label — one of the best-selling light novel franchises in Japan. It aired on AT-X from January to March 2012 and quickly became one of the most commercially successful ecchi anime of the 2010s, notable for its enthusiastic fan service alongside a genuinely developed mythology drawn from Christian and biblical cosmology and a cast that rewards long-term investment. The home video release presents the series in its uncensored form — significantly different from the broadcast version. The English dub was produced by FUNimation in Texas and features Jamie Marchi as Rias Gremory and Scott Freeman as Issei. Originally released in North America by FUNimation as a Limited Edition BD+DVD combo on August 20, 2013; the standard edition followed separately.
