This game is the 1992 Japan-exclusive sequel to the original arcade vertical shooter, developed by Irem for the PC Engine Super CD-ROM². The story picks up three years after the first game, as humanity prepares for an impending, full-scale alien invasion detected near Uranus. The player assumes the role of ace pilot Show Sawamura, tasked with piloting humanity's latest fighter ships (the OF-1 and OF-3 Garuda) during "Operation Deepstriker", a desperate preemptive strike against the alien armada. The game is renowned for its extreme difficulty, classic shoot-'em-up mechanics involving collectible power-up pods, an enhanced CD-quality soundtrack, and anime-style cutscenes with voice acting that flesh out the high-stakes narrative.
