Initial D: Extreme Stage - Playstation 3

Initial D: Extreme Stage for the PlayStation 3 is a home console port of Initial D Arcade Stage 4, developed and published by Sega. Based on Shuichi Shigeno's long-running manga series, the game puts players behind the wheel of the iconic AE86 Sprinter Trueno driven by Takumi Fujiwara and other vehicles from the series as they race and drift through the mountain passes of Gunma Prefecture. The Legend of the Streets story mode follows the events of the manga and anime, with watercolor-style character art that closely matches Shigeno's original illustration style. New to this home version are additional characters including professional racer Tomoyuki Tachi, presented as Takumi's greatest rival, and new mountain courses in Happogahara beyond the original Gunma stages.

The racing is built around touge mountain pass dueling, where inch-perfect drifting through tight corners is the core skill. Twenty-eight race courses cover uphill and downhill variants of each mountain road, with day and night conditions providing different visual detail and lighting across the same layouts. A Time Attack mode lets players upload records to a nationwide ranking system via PlayStation Network and race against downloadable ghost cars of top-ranked players. Online Network Battle mode allows real-time races against other players worldwide using PSN accounts. Car tuning restrictions from the arcade IC card system are removed for the home version, giving players immediate freedom to upgrade and customize their vehicles. The 1980s Eurobeat and J-pop soundtrack carries over from the arcade release.

Developed by Sega's New Entertainment R&D department with Cavia, Initial D: Extreme Stage released in Japan on July 3, 2008 and is the final Initial D game to receive a home console release. This is the Japanese version. Importantly, the PlayStation 3 does not region-lock Blu-ray game discs by default in the same way as some platforms, and this game has been confirmed playable on North American and European PS3 systems. All menus and text are in Japanese.
