Inuyasha the Movie 3: Swords of an Honorable Ruler DVD

Long before Inuyasha was born, his father Toga - the Great Dog Demon - wielded three legendary swords forged from his own body. Upon his death, Tetsusaiga passed to Inuyasha and Tenseiga to Sesshomaru. The third sword, Sounga, was sealed away - its power too destructive and its will too malevolent for any wielder to control safely. Five hundred years later, Sounga awakens. The sword possesses whoever touches it, driving them to kill without limit, and its ultimate goal is to open a portal to the underworld and drag all of humanity into it. With the clock running, Inuyasha and Sesshomaru are forced to stop fighting each other long enough to fight something worse than either of them. The film also reveals the human form of their father for the first time, and explores what he sacrificed in his final battle.

Inuyasha the Movie: Swords of an Honorable Ruler is the third Inuyasha theatrical film, directed by Toshiya Shinohara, written by Katsuyuki Sumisawa, and produced by Sunrise. It was released in Japanese theaters on December 20, 2003, earning 6.65 million USD at the box office on a production budget of approximately 3.6 million USD. The score was composed by Kaoru Wada, whose work on the Inuyasha franchise represents one of the most extensive anime film scoring collaborations in the medium. The film is widely considered the strongest of the four Inuyasha theatrical films for its emotional weight, its revelation of the brothers' father, and a climactic battle sequence scored with what reviewers described as evocative of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring. The Ocean Productions English dub cast reprises their roles from the television series. Viz Media released the film on DVD in North America on September 6, 2005, UPC 782009234258, rated PG-13.
