J-Stars Victory VS+ - PS4

J-Stars Victory VS+ for the PlayStation 4 is a 3D arena fighting game developed by Spike Chunsoft and published by Bandai Namco, bringing together over 50 characters from 32 manga series that have appeared in Weekly Shonen Jump across its 45-year history. The game was created to celebrate the magazine's 45th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of V Jump, presenting what Bandai Namco called the "ultimate Jump game." Luffy, Naruto, and Goku anchor the roster as the franchise's three biggest names, alongside Ichigo from Bleach, Toriko, Gon from Hunter x Hunter, Himura Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin, Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho, Shizuo Heiwajima from Durarara!!, Gintoki from Gintama, and many more spanning multiple generations of Jump readership.

Battles are 2-vs-2 team affairs played out in large destructible arenas with each character bringing their manga-accurate move set, abilities, and voice lines. A third support character can be called in briefly during battle. The V-Voltage System builds a meter that powers combination attacks between the two main fighters. Four story chapters in J-Adventure mode place players inside recognizable Jump universe locations such as Planet Namek, Alabasta, and the Hidden Leaf Village, with light RPG-style traversal between battles. Victory Road offers a more traditional fighting game challenge tower. An Arcade Mode, exclusive to the VS+ international release, was added alongside rebalanced gameplay and improved PS4 visuals over the original PS3/Vita versions.

The original J-Stars Victory VS released in Japan in March 2014 for PS3 and Vita. The VS+ update brought it to PS4 and made its international debut in North America on June 30, 2015, making this the first time the game was available outside Japan. The PS4 version offers the most polished presentation of the three platforms. For anime and manga fans, the appeal is the roster breadth: very few games have brought together this many franchises in a playable format, spanning series from the 1970s through the 2010s.
