Gyo is a Japanese horror manga series by Junji Ito about Tadashi and Kaori, a young couple whose vacation in Okinawa is interrupted by a foul-smelling, mechanical fish with metal legs that emerges from the sea. As the "death stench" spreads and more bizarre, hybrid creatures begin to invade the land, the story descends into a chaotic, apocalyptic nightmare of biological decay and industrial horror.
The series is renowned for its grotesque imagery and its exploration of themes like the lingering trauma of war, the loss of bodily autonomy, and the terrifying intersection of nature and machinery.
It was adapted into an original video animation (OVA) by studio ufotable in 2012, which took a different approach by focusing on Kaori as the primary protagonist.
