In the summer of his high school freshman year, a runaway boy named Hodaka Morishima escapes his stifling island home for the rain-soaked streets of Tokyo, where he eventually finds work at a small-time occult magazine. His life changes when he meets Hina Amano, a cheerful and strong-willed girl who possesses the supernatural ability to clear the sky and bring forth sunshine through prayer. Together, they start a business to bring sunlight to those in need, but they soon discover that Hina's "Sunshine Girl" powers come at a tragic personal cost: she is a "weather maiden" destined to be a human sacrifice to restore balance to the world's climate.
