On the run from a sinister monster, a naive young boy named Nai searches desperately for his missing benefactor, Karoku, armed only with a mysterious, abandoned bracelet. His quest takes a dramatic turn when he is captured by a monstrous creature posing as a wealthy noblewoman—only to be rescued by Gareki, a cynical, street-smart thief who breaks into the mansion for a heist. Escaping together, the duo accidentally stumbles into "Circus," a top-secret defense organization tasked with hunting down horrific genetic mutants known as Varuga. To conceal their high-stakes anti-monster operations from the public, Circus disguises its elite operatives as a dazzling, traveling carnival troupe. Taking Nai and Gareki under their wing, the colorful defense force sets out to uncover the dark conspiracy behind the Varuga and solve the mystery of Nai’s true identity.
Based on Tōya Mikanagi’s acclaimed manga series and produced by Studio Manglobe (Samurai Champloo, Ergo Proxy), Karneval is a visually breathtaking fusion of dark fantasy, high-octane action, and vibrant steampunk aesthetics. Directed by Eiji Suganuma (Mashiroiro Symphony) with character designs by Toshie Kawamura (Smile PreCure!), the series delivers rich, eye-popping animation alongside a gripping, mystery-filled narrative.
