Kasumi Ninja - Atari Jaguar

Kasumi Ninja for the Atari Jaguar is a 1994 one-on-one fighting game developed by UK studio Hand Made Software and published by Atari — the first fighting game released for the Jaguar, rushed out for the 1994 holiday season to compete directly with Mortal Kombat. The story follows two ninja protagonists, Habaki and Senzo, who must fight their way through the Dragon Cloud Temple underground labyrinth to stop the evil Elder Gyaku from opening a portal to Hell. Eight playable characters are drawn from an eccentric international roster: ninja warriors, a Yeti, a Scottish Highlander named Angus whose special move involves his kilt, a Native American warrior, a street fighter, and others.

The gameplay is a 2D one-on-one fighter with digitized actor graphics in the style of Mortal Kombat, with a similar input scheme and finishing move system. Blood pools on the floor and stays there for the duration of each round. The unique character select screen has each player moving around a first-person 3D temple to choose their fighter. Kasumi Ninja was one of the first games in history to implement a parental lockout system — a six-digit password entered via the Jaguar's 12-button keypad controls three levels of content filtering: bloodless, standard blood, and full Gore Fest mode with all finishing moves enabled.

The game was poorly received on release, criticized primarily for sluggish controls and slow gameplay relative to its competition. It has since become one of the more notorious titles in the Jaguar library and was featured in the Angry Video Game Nerd's Atari Jaguar episode. A sequel, Kasumi Ninja II, was in development for the Jaguar CD but was cancelled when the platform failed commercially. This copy includes the game and its manual. No headband accessory included.
