Keiichi Morisato is a mild-mannered engineering student who accidentally dials the Goddess Help Line and summons Belldandy — a gentle, impossibly kind goddess from heaven — straight into his dorm room. When he wishes she would stay with him forever, the Universe grants it, and Belldandy moves in. Her sisters follow: the brash, competitive Urd and the mechanical prodigy Skuld. What begins as a simple romantic comedy slowly expands into a sprawling cosmological saga involving heaven, hell, demons, ancient contracts, and the fate of existence itself — all centered on Keiichi and Belldandy's quietly unshakeable relationship.

Running in Kodansha's Monthly Afternoon for 26 years, Oh My Goddess! is one of the longest-running manga in history and the longest-running manga Dark Horse has ever published in English — first appearing in comic book format in 1994, years before the modern manga boom. Fujishima's art transforms dramatically across the run, beginning loose and expressive in the early chapters and developing into some of the most technically accomplished mechanical and character draftsmanship in seinen manga. His love of motorcycles and automobiles runs throughout, with vehicles rendered at a level of detail that borders on obsessive. The tone balances romantic warmth, slapstick comedy, and genuinely mythological scale as the series matures.

The Dark Horse single-volume English run has a layered publication history worth noting: early volumes were initially published in a flipped (left-to-right) format and later reissued unflipped in right-to-left reading order to match the Japanese originals, with the first 20 volumes having gone through multiple printings across different formats. From Volume 21 onward, Dark Horse published in unflipped format only. The series was also adapted into a five-episode OVA in 1993, a theatrical film in 2000, and a 26-episode TV anime series by AIC in 2005.
