Ashram, the dark knight of Marmo and one of the most formidable warriors in the world of Lodoss, is desperate to find a homeland for his displaced people. Manipulated by the evil god Barbas, he is tricked into surrendering his soul and vanishes entirely. Three hundred years later, his devoted vassal Pirotesse has been reincarnated as Lady Sheru — her love carrying intact across the centuries. In Crystania, a sacred land where gods walk as shape-shifting human warriors, she searches for him. She finds Redon, a grieving young prince seeking revenge for his parents' murder. Together they pursue Ashram's captive soul through a civil war, confronting Barbas who seeks to rule Crystania as God's King.

Legend of Crystania: The Motion Picture is an 80-minute 1995 theatrical film directed by Ryūtarō Nakamura — who later directed Serial Experiments Lain and Kino's Journey — produced by Triangle Staff, written by Record of Lodoss War creator Ryo Mizuno, and scored by Michiru Oshima (Fullmetal Alchemist 2003, Magic User's Club) and Toshihiko Sahashi (Ghost Sweeper Mikami, Steel Angel Kurumi, Gundam SEED).

The film is set in the same world as Record of Lodoss War but on the separate continent of Crystania, three centuries after the events of the original story.

Released in Japan on July 29, 1995; released in North America on VHS by ADV Films on September 22, 1998 and on DVD on February 8, 2000, rated 15+. The three-episode Chaos Ring OVA sequel is a separate DVD release.
