Set in the Erebonian Empire, the game follows Rean Schwarzer, a new student at the elite Thors Military Academy, where noble-born and commoner students are placed together in the experimental Class VII. The school year unfolds across a series of field studies that send the class to different regions of the empire, gradually revealing the political tensions building between Erebonia's warring noble factions. What begins as a school story expands into something considerably larger as the year progresses.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel — Decisive Edition for the PlayStation 4 is the enhanced PS4 port of Nihon Falcom's acclaimed 2015 JRPG, originally released on PS3 and Vita.
The Decisive Edition improves on the PS3 original with faster loading times, higher resolution visuals running at up to 4K on compatible hardware, fully voiced English dialogue for scenes that were text-only in the original release, and a Turbo Mode that speeds up combat and exploration. The ARCUS combat system and Combat Link mechanics return, with bonded character pairs enabling linked attacks, guards, and healing in battle. Relationship levels built with classmates outside of combat carry into battle through the Link system and affect the story's personal scenes throughout the year.
The game is the first entry in the Cold Steel arc of the broader Trails series and is designed to be accessible to newcomers, while players familiar with the Trails in the Sky trilogy will find additional layers of connected lore. Developed by Nihon Falcom and published by XSEED Games in North America on June 26, 2019. This Decisive Edition includes the game and a bonus soundtrack CD.
