In Loco Dol, Nanako Usami is just a normal high school student until her uncle, a city councilman, convinces her to become a "Locodol"—a local idol representing their small town of Nagarekawa. Partnered with her perfect (yet surprisingly air-headed) upperclassman Yukari Kohinata, Nanako forms the "Nagarekawa Girls." Instead of sold-out arenas and glitzy fame, their days are filled with low-budget cable TV interviews, mall appearances, and performing on department store rooftops. Joined by the athletic Yui—who handles the heavy lifting inside the town's fish-themed mascot costume—they strive to revitalize their hometown's tourism, one awkward handshake event at a time.
