Lollipop Chainsaw - Playstation 3

Lollipop Chainsaw for the PlayStation 3 is a hack-and-slash action game developed by Grasshopper Manufacture, directed by SUDA51, and written by filmmaker James Gunn. Juliet Starling is an 18-year-old cheerleader from a family of zombie hunters who shows up on her birthday to find San Romero High School overrun by the undead. Her boyfriend Nick is bitten early in the outbreak, and Juliet saves him by decapitating him and attaching his still-talking head to her hip, where he serves as a companion and occasional weapon throughout the game. The zombie infestation turns out to be orchestrated by a dark magic user who has summoned five zombie rock lords to back his bid for world domination.

Combat is built around Juliet's chainsaw and pom-poms, which deal different damage types and ranges. Killing multiple enemies simultaneously with a well-placed chainsaw strike triggers Sparkle Hunting, a rainbow-explosion bonus that showers the screen in coins, stars, and zombie confetti. Coins are spent at an in-game shop to purchase new combo attacks, stat upgrades, costumes, and recovery items between stages. Nick's disembodied head is used as a thrown projectile for certain puzzles and a collectible in-world item. Boss battles against the five zombie rock lords are each built around a specific musical genre, from heavy metal to psychedelic, with stages and attack patterns themed accordingly.

The soundtrack spans over 30 licensed tracks and was composed and supervised by Akira Yamaoka, the Silent Hill series composer. A collaboration between Suda51's Grasshopper Manufacture and James Gunn, Lollipop Chainsaw released in North America on June 12, 2012. A remaster, Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP, was released in 2024 with a largely replacement soundtrack due to licensing expirations, making the original PS3 version the only way to experience the game with its complete original music.
