Christmas Eve at Hinata Inn, and a rumor is circulating through the residents: if you confess your love on this particular night, any wish will come true. Keitaro, who has been circling the question of his feelings for Naru for the entire television series without managing to say anything definitive, decides tonight is the night. He makes his plan. The plan immediately begins going wrong. Everyone in the building has their own romantic situation unfolding simultaneously — Shinobu is quietly devastated, Mitsune is cheerfully interfering, Motoko is struggling with feelings she refuses to acknowledge, Mutsumi is serenely unhelpful in her distinctive way, and Naru herself is wrestling with emotions she cannot yet articulate. The special builds to a confession scene that the TV series had been building toward all season, set against snow and Christmas lights and the specific kind of emotional chaos that only Keitaro can generate just by trying to say something sincere.
Love Hina X'mas Special: Silent Eve is a television special aired on TV Tokyo on December 25, 2000, following the conclusion of the Love Hina TV series. Widely regarded as the strongest single Love Hina anime production — AnimeOnDVD.com's Chris Beveridge called it "several notches above the TV series" — the special benefits from a focused single-episode runtime, a strong emotional payoff, and notably higher animation quality than the weekly series.
The North American DVD released by Bandai Entertainment on December 3, 2002 includes the special itself plus the previously unaired bonus Episode 25 from the TV series as a second feature.
