Naruto is one of the best-selling manga series of all time — a fifteen-year epic of ninja action, found family, and relentless determination written and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto and serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 1999 to 2014.
\Naruto Uzumaki is a loud, reckless, orange-jumpsuit-wearing orphan from the Hidden Leaf Village with zero talent for subtlety and one enormous secret: sealed inside him since birth is the Nine-Tailed Fox, a catastrophically powerful demon whose attack once devastated the village. Shunned by the community that fears what he carries, Naruto has one goal he clings to with every ounce of stubbornness he has — to become Hokage, the village's greatest ninja, and make everyone acknowledge him. The series follows his years at the ninja academy, his formation of Team 7 alongside the brooding Sasuke Uchiha and the sharp Sakura Haruno under the infuriatingly laid-back jonin Kakashi Hatake, and his slow, hard-won growth from class clown to one of the most formidable shinobi who ever lived.
The series is structured in two parts: the first (Volumes 1–27) covers Naruto's early training, the Chunin Exams, and the devastating departure of Sasuke — one of the most emotionally effective arcs in shonen manga. Part Two (Volumes 28–72), known as Naruto: Shippuden, picks up two and a half years later with a time skip and escalating stakes, culminating in the Fourth Great Ninja War — a conflict that brings together virtually every character the series has ever introduced. Kishimoto's character work is the engine that keeps 700 chapters moving: the rivalry between Naruto and Sasuke, in particular, is one of the great relationships in manga, built with genuine care across the entire run.
Over 250 million copies sold worldwide in 46 countries. VIZ Media's best-selling manga series of all time. Winner of the Quill Award in 2006 — the seventh volume was the first manga ever to receive the honor. Adapted into two long-running anime series by Studio Pierrot, eleven films, and a sprawling multimedia franchise that continues today through Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. One of the undisputed "Big Three" of Weekly Shōnen Jump alongside Bleach and One Piece — a complete 72-volume run is a landmark collector's set and a serious shelf achievement.
