Mega Man 6 - NES

Mega Man 6 for the NES is the grand finale of the original 8-bit Mega Man series — the last Mega Man game ever made for the NES, and one of the most polished. A mysterious billionaire named Mr. X has organized the First Annual Robot Masters Tournament, inviting the world's greatest robots to compete for the title of strongest peacekeeping machine. On the eve of the championship, Mr. X reveals it was all a trap — he takes control of all eight competitors and declares his intention to conquer the world. Mega Man sets out to stop him, unaware that a far more familiar face is pulling the strings behind the scenes.

The core Mega Man formula is in top form: choose from eight non-linear stages, defeat each Robot Master to absorb their weapon, and use those weapons strategically against their weaknesses. Blizzard Man, Centaur Man, Flame Man, Knight Man, Plant Man, Tomahawk Man, Wind Man, and Yamato Man round out the roster — notably the first set of Robot Masters in the series designed with submissions from fans outside Japan. The Rush Adaptor system — new to this entry — lets Mega Man fuse directly with Rush to form Jet Mega Man (limited flight) or Power Mega Man (punch through blocks and armored enemies), replacing Rush's standalone transformation moves from earlier games. Beat can also be deployed as an automated attack drone and Eddie drops random useful items throughout stages.

Mega Man 6 was developed during Capcom's pivot to the SNES, with Keiji Inafune in a reduced role — and Capcom Japan chose not to publish it in North America at all, leaving Nintendo of America to step in as publisher. It was never released in Europe until its 3DS Virtual Console debut in 2013, nearly 20 years late. Despite its circumstances, the game sold around 800,000 copies and is regarded as a technically impressive send-off for 8-bit Mega Man — the last entry before the series reinvented itself on the SNES with Mega Man 7 in 1995.
