Mega Man ZX for the Nintendo DS is a side-scrolling action platformer set many years after the events of the Mega Man Zero series, in a future where humans and Reploids have finally achieved peace. Players control either Vent or Aile, two young couriers working for Giro Express, whose routine delivery goes dangerously wrong and thrusts them into a conflict far larger than they imagined. The core mechanic revolves around "biometal" — powerful armored forms absorbed from defeated bosses that grant Vent or Aile new weapons, abilities, and movement options like swimming and flight. Different situations call for different biometal suits, and in civilian areas it's sometimes wiser to return to human form to move through undetected. In a clever twist, deliberately avoiding a boss's weak spot during battle preserves the biometal's condition, reducing the repairs needed after acquisition. Fans of Mega Man Zero 3 or Zero 4 can insert those GBA cartridges into the DS slot to unlock special bonus boss encounters from that series.
