Megadimension Neptunia VII — pronounced "V-Two," not "seven" — for the Nintendo Switch is the fourth mainline entry in Idea Factory and Compile Heart's beloved Hyperdimension Neptunia JRPG series, and the most ambitious and emotionally resonant installment yet.

The game is set in Gamindustri, a digital world divided into four nations each representing a different game console — Planeptune (Sega Neptune), Lastation (PlayStation), Leanbox (Xbox), and Lowee (Nintendo) — each ruled by a CPU Goddess who draws power from the faith of her citizens, known as Shares. The story follows Neptune and her sister Nepgear, who are mysteriously transported from Hyper Dimension to the devastated Zero Dimension — a post-apocalyptic wasteland that was once its own Gamindustri but has been all but destroyed by colossal god-like beings called Dark CPUs. There they meet Uzume Tennouboshi, the last surviving CPU of the Zero Dimension, whose fight to protect her world becomes entangled with a conspiracy that threatens every dimension of Gamindustri at once.

The game is structured across three distinct story arcs — the Zero Dimension, Hyper Dimension, and Heart Dimension chapters — each with its own tone, cast focus, and escalating stakes, giving the game a scope significantly larger than previous entries. Combat has been completely overhauled with a new positioning-based battle system where the placement of characters on the battlefield affects attack reach and effectiveness.

Each Goddess now has access to a new Next Form — an additional transformation tier beyond their standard HDD Goddess mode that changes not only their combat style but their personality and dialogue, adding meaningful character depth.

Giant Boss battles pit the party against screen-filling Dark CPUs in a separate combat mode, and the Stella's Dungeon mini-game sends a chibi version of the dungeon-exploring mascot Stella on automated expeditions to gather materials and rare items.

Three endings are available depending on key choices made during the Heart Dimension arc, including a True Revival ending that requires witnessing specific story events.

The Nintendo Switch version released in Japan in March 2020 and worldwide on July 28, 2020, representing the game's most portable form and the easiest version to find new. It is the direct sequel to Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory and serves as the culmination of the Re;Birth era of the franchise before the series transitioned into spin-offs and the VIIR remake.
