"Things bound to earthly shapes are temporal and frail; existing in a single dimension, they are fragile, vulnerable, and ultimately mortal".

Released in 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube, Metroid Prime is a landmark reimagining of the classic franchise that successfully transitioned bounty hunter Samus Aran into a three-dimensional world. Following a distress signal to the derelict frigate Orpheon, Samus pursues her arch-nemesis Ridley to the surface of Tallon IV, a world once home to the ancient Chozo civilization but now corrupted by a toxic substance known as Phazon. As Samus explores the planet's diverse biomes—from the scorched Magmoor Caverns to the frozen Phendrana Drifts—she must recover her lost abilities, decipher the history of the Chozo through scanned lore, and dismantle the Space Pirates' biological experiments to prevent a planetary catastrophe.

The gameplay of Metroid Prime introduces the "First-Person Adventure" perspective, emphasizing exploration and environmental puzzle-solving over pure combat. Players navigate the world through Samus’s visor, which provides a detailed HUD and allows for seamless switching between different Visor modes (such as Scan, Thermal, and X-Ray) to uncover secrets and exploit enemy weaknesses. While the perspective is new, the core Metroidvania loop remains intact: players unlock new areas by acquiring iconic power-ups like the Morph Ball, Grapple Beam, and various elemental Beam weapons. The game's innovative "lock-on" combat system ensures that movement remains fluid and tactical even in a 3D space, allowing Samus to strafe around bosses while maintaining focus on her target.

By using a GameCube-GBA Link Cable and a copy of Metroid Fusion, players can unlock the functional "Fusion Suit" for Samus to wear in-game, as well as a playable emulated version of the original 1986 Metroid from the NES.

Unlike previous entries, much of the narrative is delivered through the Scan Visor. Completionists often spend hours scanning every creature, computer terminal, and ancient mural to achieve a 100% Logbook completion rate, which unlocks secret ending cinematics.
