The King of Fighters '99: Millennium Battle is a fighting game that begins the "NESTS Chronicles" story arc, following a shadowy organization known as NESTS which seeks world domination. The story introduces a new protagonist, the amnesiac test subject K', who enters the KOF tournament with his cyborg partner Maxima to uncover his stolen past. They face the antagonist Krizalid, a NESTS agent who organized the tournament to gather battle data to activate an army of Kyo Kusanagi clones. After defeating Krizalid and escaping the collapsing underground facility, K' and Maxima are determined to dismantle the NESTS cartel.
